Abstract: Carboniferous and Permian in western Tarim basin were divided into three zones and six subzones. Thirty-six fossil belts or assemblages including fusulinida, condonts, forminifera, ostracodas and sporopollen were established, new stratigraphic classification plan was drawn up to provide reliable basis for petroleum prospecting and downhole stratigraphic classification and correlation.
