Abstract: Moderate-small-size intermont basins in Tianshan Mountain structural belts in Xinjiang were formed on Hercynian folded basement which have been undergone three basining periods , including Late Permian downfaulted lakes, Triassic-Jurassic depressional lake swamp and Cretaceous-Cenczoic con-tractional intermont basin. F ormation of the secondary structural units of the basin and formation of local structures are colled by Yanshan movement. The Himalayan movement controls final stereotype of local structures and faults, hydrocarbon migration and accumulation for forming reservoirs are also con-trolled by it. Exploration of these intermont basins should be highly valued because they possess main petroleum geology conditions of the formation of moderate- small- size oil and gas fields.
