Abstract: In this paper, the zirconite cathodeluminescence and dating data are used to analyze the provenance of Hetaoyuan formation in Wuyang sag. It is firstly confirmed that the provenances of He-2 sections in Well Wucan-3 and Well Wu-8 are all from the southern margin of the sag. Namely, the sand bodies of braided river delta in the southern slope of Wuyang sag in the period of Hetaoyuan formation moved far toward the inner sag and those near the northern steep slope distributed along the boundary fault. This discovery plays a key role in petroleum exploration and deployment of Wuyang sag in the future.
