Abstract: Based on geochemistry studies of oil geneses and cr ude hydrocarbon-formed mechanism in northwestern marginof Junggar Basin, it has been considered that origin of the heavy oil should be secondaiy in nature and emerged fromUpper Paleozoic source rocks. This oil can be classified into three types: type I is the product of "eatly formed hydro-carbon mechanism type II is the product of late formed hydrocarbon mechanism;type III is a transition one. Themost crude oil that prospected and developed in the northwestern margin is type I in nature.
