Abstract: Structuring mechanism in western Tarim basin and its adjacent areas was primarily controlled by colision and extrusion of Indonian plate, and, to a less extent, by extrusion of Siberia and Kazakhstan plates: overthrust of Pamir nappe and shear strike slip to the east in southwest margin; overthrust of west Kunlun mountains in south mar-gin; overthrust of Kalpin arc overthrust uplift in northern and northwestern Tarim basin;and in the northeast, special shear strikes slip system arised from Bachu faulted uplift sub-jected to the collision in opposite directions.
