Abstract: The coupling of seepage and stress fields is represented by the effect of stress field on seepage field during oil and gas secondary migration. Terrestrial stress is a main control on hydrostatic head of reservoir, and its gradient powers oil, gas and water migration. Oil and gas secondary migration can be divided into two stages according to type of drive: drive by self-weight stress gradient and stacked stress gradient of tectonic, and self-weight stresses. Progressive inversion of palaeostress field at two stages is a new way for forecasting oil and gas reservoir.
