Abstract: Based on the coal petrology of immature oil and the hydrocarbon-generation experiments with peat, coal and mudstone in coal-bearing series, it is pointed out that absorption of clay minerals and micro-pore in coal controls formation, expulsion and migration of coal-formed oil.The maceral of Jurassic coal in northwestern China is composed of matrix vitrinite and suberinite. It is quite difficult to form the sized oilfield but may be discovered in some depressions with developed limnetic facies source rock.
