THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OVERBURDEN PRESSURE, FLUID PRESSURE AND FRAMEWORK STRESS

Abstract

Abstract: Traditional theory considered that the overburden pressure(p_ob)is the sum of hydrostatic pressure(p_f) and framework stress(p_G), this may resulted in many mistakes.Taking petrophysical properties and mechnic equilibrium into account, a new expression was established, namely p_ob =Φp_f + (1 -Φ) p_G.It is more scientific and expected to play important role in reservoir engineering and lab study.
