Abstract: 40 years' petroleum exploration experiences and knowledge about petroleum geology in Junggar basin are briefl y reviewed and summa ri zed, and then the prospects for petroleum exploration in Junggar basin are out looked. It is suggested that the attempts to high-efficiency and ra pid increase in petroleum reserves of Junggar basin can be car riedout by adopting the following measu res;① deepening the exploration in the discovered oil and gas accumulation belts to further enlarge exploration results, and strengthening research and drilling exploration on the known large-scale traps for new dis covery. In recent petroleum exploration, Karamay-Xiazijie oil and gas accu mu lation belt, Hongsha nzu i-Chepaizi oil and gas accu mulation belt, Lunan oil and gas accumulation belt, Zhongguai oil and gas accumulation belt, Ma hu and Ma nan anticlines, and Muo-suowan anticline should be considered the main objectives.
