Abstract: Based on the fossil assemblages lithologic characters, special minerals and microelements etc. , the depositional environment in the period of Pingdiquan formation was recognized to be a continental shore paralic lake, and expioring fan delta sandy—conglomeratic bodies to be good in petrophysics in the vicinity of strata that showed higher paleao—salineness and enormously enriched special fauna will be an important direction for prospecting hydrocarbon from east part of Junggar Basin. This paper also gives correlations for Pingdiquan formation, Lucaogou—hongyanchi formations in the southern margin and Lower Wuerhe formation in northwestern margin .
