Abstract: The igneous rocks in Junggar basin are in wide distribution. The igneous reservoirs are characterized by developed fractures and high yield. They play an important role in incremental reserves and production in Karamy field. This paper presents the classification and characteristic analysis of the igneous rocks in hinterland of Junggar basin in term of the chemical component, occurrence, texture and mineral composition of the rocks. It is recognized that there are relative complete types of igneous rocks composed of extrusive rock, intrusive rock and pyroclastic rock from basic to acidic ones in hinterland of Junggar basin, and part of them belongs to alteration ones. These recognitions could be helpful to proper knowledge of the potentials and to guidance of exploration and development of such reservoirs.
