Abstract: Santanghu Basin is of oil and gas praspeet.The authur discussed the evolutan,type and oil-bearing possibility of the basin,based the analysis of the geoiogical and geophysical data ollected during the past 30 years. The basa-ment of the basin is a trench-arc-basin marginal marine sediment system on the frontal active continental margin of the Siberia antient land. The metamorphic basement (O_2-3-D₂) was formed by folding movement and igneous intru-slon of the system in later period. On the basement deposited the late Palaeozoic (D₁-P₁) collision foreland marine, paralic and contincntal scdiment, and the late Palaeozoic—Cainozoic (P₂-Q) multi-stage collision piedmont conti-nental sediment. Therefore severai hydrocarbon sources were fomed. The basin has the geotectonic condition for forming non-biogenic sources. It is medium-scale basin with relatively rich oii and gs resource,Recomendatioans concerning the oii and gas prospecting in thc basin are propased.
